Your kids will love the Postal Museum in London!

Luce e Limoni Restaurant - Sicilian & Italian food at its finest

The Postal Museum is a hidden gem that combines history, technology and hands-on activities to create an experience that kids and adults can enjoy together.

This award-winning, independent museum brings the story of British postal communication to life through engaging exhibitions, interactive displays and fascinating objects from the past. Rather than simply looking at history behind glass, visitors can discover how messages have travelled across the country and around the world through a variety of immersive experiences.

One of the highlights for many families is Mail Rail, the underground railway that once transported post beneath the streets of London. This remarkable hidden network offers visitors the chance to take an exciting ride through a part of the capital that most people never knew existed. It is a unique combination of engineering, history and adventure that is sure to capture children’s imaginations.

Younger visitors are also well catered for at Sorted, a dedicated children’s play area where little ones can explore, create and learn through imaginative activities. With family-friendly exhibitions and interactive features throughout the museum, there are plenty of opportunities for children to get involved rather than simply observe.

Behind the scenes, the museum cares for hundreds of thousands of objects and stories that reveal the remarkable 500-year history of postal communication. The collections include everything from historic vehicles and uniforms to stamps, pillar boxes and examples of innovative engineering. Together, these items show how the postal service has evolved and how communication has shaped everyday life.

The Postal Museum opened in Farringdon in 2017 and welcomes visitors from across the UK and overseas. As the public face of the Postal Heritage Trust, an independent charity dedicated to preserving and sharing postal history, the museum continues to explore how communication connects people and communities. Its location in Farringdon also makes it an excellent choice for a family day out, with plenty to see and do nearby.

A visit to the Postal Museum proves that history doesn’t have to be boring. With underground trains, fascinating stories and plenty to discover, it is a place where curious minds of all ages can have fun!
