When you want to eat at a great Sicilian restaurant in London, where better to go than to an establishment founded and run by a true Sicilian?
Every restaurant has a story, but at Luce e Limoni ours starts a long way from Gray’s Inn Road. It starts in Sicily, with a young boy who discovered a passion for cooking and eventually brought that passion with him to London.
Our owner and head chef, Fabrizio Zafarana, entered a professional kitchen in Sicily when he was just 13 years old. That early experience developed into a lifelong interest in Italian and Sicilian cooking, and Fabrizio went on to train as a professional chef in Italy.
In 1983, he moved to London with a clear ambition: to establish his own Sicilian restaurant. Before that dream could become reality, he spent ten years working in professional kitchens in the capital, gaining experience of London’s restaurant world and developing his own approach to food.
In 1996, Fabrizio opened his first restaurant. Then, in 2013, came Luce e Limoni.
The restaurant has its roots firmly in Fabrizio’s Sicilian heritage, but it’s also very much part of London. Located on Gray’s Inn Road in Clerkenwell, Luce e Limoni brings the flavours and traditions of Sicily to one of central London’s most historic and lively neighbourhoods.
The food reflects that background. The restaurant uses carefully selected ingredients, with locally sourced and organic produce used where possible. Pasta and bread are prepared in-house by the restaurant team, while the menu combines classic Sicilian dishes with a contemporary touch.
There’s also a strong emphasis on the wider Italian dining experience. The wine list features a particularly good selection from Sicily alongside wines from other parts of Italy, giving diners plenty of opportunities to discover something new.
More than a decade after Luce e Limoni opened, the basic idea remains reassuringly simple: share the food Fabrizio grew up with, prepare it with care and give London diners the chance to experience a little of Sicily without having to book a flight.
Not a bad journey for a passion that began in a professional kitchen when Fabrizio was just 13! He now presides over what is possibly the best renowned Sicilian restaurant in London.
