Looking for a good central London Italian restaurant? Try Luce e Limoni, the celebrated Sicilian on Gray’s Inn Road. Our menu features six great ingredients.
Sicilian cooking has a distinctive personality, and you don’t need a complicated recipe to understand why. Look at some of the ingredients that appear on the Luce e Limoni menu and you’ll quickly find a combination of Mediterranean freshness, richness and plenty of character.
Take aubergine for example. It’s one of the stars of Sicilian cooking and features in our aubergine caponata, as well as our rigatoni with fried aubergines, tomato, basil and salted ricotta. Soft, savoury and wonderfully versatile, aubergine has a knack for making a dish feel substantial without overpowering the other flavours.
Then there are tomatoes, another essential ingredient across Italian cooking. At Luce e Limoni they appear in dishes including our rigatoni, spicy spaghetti with crabmeat and cherry tomato sauce, and our roast cod with capers, anchovies and cherry tomatoes. They bring acidity, sweetness and freshness to the plate.
Capers are another little ingredient that can make a surprisingly big impression. Their salty, punchy flavour appears alongside the tomatoes, anchovies and other Mediterranean ingredients in several dishes, including our Sicilian-style roast cod.
Lemons are equally important. Sicily is famous for its citrus, and that fresh, sharp quality works beautifully with seafood. At Luce e Limoni, lemon zest features in our grilled stuffed squid with ricotta, while lemon is also used to complement fish and other dishes.
Almonds add a completely different dimension. Our pan-fried salmon is served with a toasted almond and saffron sauce, showing how nuts can provide both texture and a gentle richness.
And then there’s ricotta, a wonderfully creamy ingredient with strong Sicilian associations. We use it in several ways, including the salted ricotta served with our aubergine and tomato rigatoni, as well as the ricotta and lemon zest filling in our grilled stuffed squid.
Put these ingredients together and you begin to see what makes Sicilian food so appealing. There’s no need for unnecessary fuss. Freshness, contrast and good-quality ingredients do much of the work.
At Luce e Limoni, our ever popular central London Italian restaurant, that’s exactly what we aim to bring to the table: recognisable ingredients, traditional influences and plenty of Sicilian character.
